In early 2009, a group of Managers from across the Wide Bay decided that the most cost effective way of developing their individual organisations to face the future would be by working together as a mentoring group of like-minded colleagues. This decision to work closely was taken in the context of the recently introduced Disability Sector Quality System and the ongoing demand for better services focused on quality and continuous improvement. The group became known as the Like Minded Group (LMG).

Following several successful years working together, and the pending introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Individualised Funding packages, and the growing competition in the market place, it was decided that a more formal method of operating was required. This involved a more formalised structure being established, even up to a possible separate entity being established, while still maintaining the autonomy and expertise of each individual organisation. Thus the Wide Bay Burnett Coalition (The Coalition) was born.

Burnett Respite Services Inc T/A Carinbundi is a community based organisation formed in 1994 to provide regular respite to people with a disability aged from birth to 65 years. This care is provided to offer relief from stress for carers and to provide a break for people with disabilities.

Since its early days the Service has grown and now offers a range of programs including short and long-term respite options, long-term supported accommodation, day services in a number of community environments and youth and older carer respite activities.
